Our History

In 1945 Bert Fitzgibbon returned home after serving Canada during World War II and soon started Fitzgibbon Construction. In the early years, Bert mainly focused on building roads for the Armstrong Lumber empire in Centre Hastings. He slowly grew the business to include water, sewer, asphalt and paving operations. Bert developed a friendship with a Belleville home builder named Earl DeMille who would undertake all of Earl’s site development for his home building business. They became good friends that enjoyed the outdoors often hunting together at every opportunity. In the early 1960’s Bert died tragically in a plane crash on the Bay of Quinte, soon afterwards Earl DeMille bought Fitzgibbon Construction from Bert’s estate.

Earl continued to operate both companies until he decided to focus solely on Fitzgibbon Construction. With the help of his two son’s Ralph and Greg he expanded the company’s core business to include heavy civil projects.
